Sorghum Festival

What a great weekend we had here in Black Mountain.  First, the kids enjoyed a visit from Mamaw.  Ruby was a bit suspicious, but the other kids loved it.  Mamaw was hardly here an hour before the kids put her to work.  Starting with Savannah's potato salad.  We sent all the kids out to husk corn.  We love Mamaw's visits because she brings home canned goods from her garden like beans, pickles and black berry jelly, as well as fresh produce like corn and potatoes.

Larry Denzil and I got a much needed break with a dinner and a movie.  It was wonderful.  We ate at Red Lobster and then watched Dark Knight.  It was quite a wonderful evening.  Can I just say, this batman movie was truly awesome, but extremely dark compared to the older batman movies.  I think Christian Bale's rendition is a much darker, brooding batman. Oh, and Heath Ledger as the Joker, was absolutely awesome.

Here is a picture I took earlier in the week.  Ruby has always

been a blankie baby.  Here recently, she has started carrying a baby doll too.

And she loves my rocking chair.  Yesterday at church, she had 2 baby dolls.

We went early with Larry Denzil, and there was a woman from the ward sitting

in the foyer.  She had a 1 month old that she was rocking and feeding.  Ruby watched

in wonder and started to rock her baby while standing.  I wish I had my camera.  It was

truly a kodak moment.

This picture again was taken earlier in the week.
Larry Denzil was emotional because Ruby was
clutching his arm in such a loving manner.
A beautiful father daughter moment.

This is just another cute picture that has nothing to do
with our weekend.  I just captured a picture of Ruby all
riced up.  My kids love rice unlike their half Japanese
mother.  They can eat it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
A brother sister moment.  Xander absolutely adores
his baby sister Ruby Isabella.
Ok, so we all know that when Mamaw visits, she has to cook.
It is an awful thing, but no one makes pancakes or biscuits and
gravy like Mamaw can.  Here, Ruby is enjoying Xander's favorite meal,
Mamaw's pancakes.
Off to the Sorghum festival.  I bought this leash for Ruby because
the sidewalks in Black Mountain are just too small for our double stroller.
Ruby absolutely loved the the monkey back pack until she realized we
were controlling where she could and could not go.

I had to take a picture of the kids with their weekend
visitors.
After we finished looking at all the vendor's booths,
we sat down for some scrumptious snacks.  The kids chose
sno-cones.  Larry Denzil says this picture shows
Larry, Moe and Curly.  You be the judge of who is who.

Ruby absolutely loved her sno-cone.  Her little tongue was
so busy licking that flavored ice.

Larry Denzil and I chose the popular onion blossom.  It was so good.

After all our fun, it was time to get to work.  Larry Denzil pressure
washed the side of our house.  For some reason, this one side
gets mildew.  There is no moisture here so we are unsure why it
happens.  Luckily, we have a pressure washer.
How fitting it was for me to capture my two Larry's
washing the house.

Here is Ethan enjoying the water gun Mamaw brought them.
I love the fact that our camera even captures the droplets
of water.  Thank you Nikon.

Ok, so while the boys were busy washing the house, I was picking tomatoes.
Here are just a couple cherry tomato plants that produce a few dozen tomatoes a
week.  I have my monday planned out for canning tomatoes.

Here is a pictures of 1 of our 3 watermelons.  The kids and
Larry Denzil are so excited and cannot wait to cut into this fruit.

We hope you enjoyed the pictures and the post.
Love,
the Roberts Family
PS, For some reason, I am finding eaten ears of corn in the strangest
of places around my yard.  Happy Summer.

I love the post and the pictures, but I think we would all like to see the picture taker actually in the pictures occassionally. :)

Man, I am so jealous you guys got to eat Mom's pancakes!

I love all the great moments you caught with your camera (but I too would much rather be behind the camera!)

We have Noah a little monkey backpack, too, and Carter led him around by it at the airport this week. It was quite a sight.

Girls Camp

This year, Savannah got to attend her very first girls camp. Here she is with Morgan, another first timer.  Not sure how Savannah would have done without Sister Skroski. She showed Savannah the ropes and really took care of her in my absence.  Savannah all excited to leave. I can only guess what these last few pictures are. Savannah had a great time and Larry was there as a priesthood chaperone so she was not completely alone. This summer was a summer of firsts for my girl. She had her first girls camp, her first youth Temple trip and her first talk in sacrament. Wow!

Tennessee Adventures with the Hurts

This summer, Ethan was able to go to Denzil's for 2 weeks. Of course he had a blast, and came back a new boy. He learned to ride a bike, and came home darker if that s at all possible. To drop Ethan off, we met Jason & Sheba , in Knoxville. Sheba's GPS found this neat park in rather a shady area of Knoxville. Emalene is a good model, always willing to pose when I say smile.  Here is my little Ruby in deep concentration.  Ethan did not even look back when he left me.  Gator with the big boys.  Emalene in her favorite color, and Ruby in hers. How cute are they?  A group shot at the drop off.  These monkey bars, kept the kids entertained for a while. Each one tried to make it across. Not sure any succeeded.  Here is Gator trying to reach.  Finally he found a sucker.  Look at him hang by himself.  Denzil looks very unsure about this. We thought we could get a group shot, but the wheel kept spinning and little arms got tired.  The two amigos.  A group shot at t
