Surprise Anniversary Gift

This summer, I found these cool University of Kentucky fabrics online at Hancock. I bought half a yard of all 4 pieces and started searching online for some inspiration. It did not take long to come across the wonky star quilt pattern. I have never done a quilt pattern that required so much  cutting and measuring. This was going to be my quilting project while the kids were in school. But it was also going to be a surprise for the biggest UK fan in my life. A surprise that I was going to try and keep hidden till December 20. I was able to keep it hidden for 3 months.  But once I put it on the quilting frame, it was no longer a secret. I enjoy hand quilting very much. I joked with an old friend telling her that I get restless hand syndrome when I am not working on something. Two birthdays ago, Larry Denzil bought me this quilting frame. Last week was the first time I had a quilt on it.   I must say, this ...

Baby Quilts

Last month I crazily attempted to make two baby quilts in two weeks.  I succeeded. I did one in pinks and browns with a 3 inch star. The other I did in teals and browns with a 2 inch star. I must say the teal and brown is my favorite! All of my quilts are hand quilted.  They used to be hand pieced, but I have recently started to machine piece all of them. Sorry for the blurry images.  Savannah excitedly took these at her first baby shower.  The pink one went to her YW teacher. The teal one went to Ruby's CTR teacher. Happy Quilting.....

Kindergartners

Why is it, when kids learn to write their name, they write it everywhere? All my boys practiced writing their names on walls, doors, and furniture.  Savannah was a good girl and just wrote on paper.  Granted sometimes it was in a library book, it was always on paper. Ruby is writing her name everywhere! Literally everywhere.   I first found her name on the bathroom sink. Easily wiped off so no biggie. Next was the back of my van seats. This I did not notice till I was loading groceries. Luckily our van is 10 years old and the boys have done worse things than writing their name.  I have found her name on laundry baskets, windows, book cases.... Our remedy, sidewalk chalk. She loves writing her name and drawing to her hearts delight on our driveway.  This is a canvas I can work with.

Happy 6th Ruby!

Behind yet again.  Time for a brief catch up. September 26 was Ruby's 6th birthday. Because it fell on a wednesday, she lucked out and had two celebrations. We had her "fake" celebration on Saturday with the Hurts and had her "real" celebration on her birthday. The Hurts had this crazy lighter.  Scared Ruby to death. Ruby dressed in a new outfit for school! Ruby got some birthday money this year.  With it, she purchased this Rapunzel doll.  Surprise, surprise.  The girl absolutely loves Tangled. Happy Birthday to the other two women who share Ruby's birthday.
